Florals

There's something so ethereal and incomparably unique about a flower to me!  I can't resist wanting to paint them all.  There is so much joy expressed in the unfolding petals and the rainbow of colors!  How can something as fragile as a petal withstand the harsh winds and Spring hail of New Mexico's high desert climate?  And yet, they do!  They surely possess a strength we cannot comprehend.

I love painting flowers, no matter the occasion.  If you have a special favorite flower you would like to see me paint and add to the collection here ... please let me know!  I believe watercolor to be the perfect medium for painting earth's profusion of blooms!

"A Dandelion For Annie"

"A Dandelion For Annie"

Prior to my vacation in Central Calif (my childhood home) in June '23, I painted this for my dear friend Annie, who is undergoing Chemo for a very aggressive & rare cancer. Dandelions are her "life motto" because they represent "new life" with their seeds that blow off into the wind, growing anew! May God heal her and extend her life, is my prayer! June 28, 2023 12" x 9" on Arches 140# -- NFS --

Requiem For Rozie's Babies

Requiem For Rozie's Babies

This was painted for a dear friend (Lindsey), Senior Elephant-Keeper at our Zoo. The mama Asian elephant (Rozie) has had three babies in the past 15 years, who have tragically all died in recent years, due to an elephant herpes virus. The flowers (and stalk of thorn!) in the jar are all to honor those babies: "Daizy," "Jazmine" (Jazzy), and "Thorn." They were all greatly beloved, and are terribly missed. Rest in peace, sweet babies! March 23, 2023 13.5" x 7.5" on Arches 140# -- NFS -

Another demo painting for my Spring 2022 "Still-Lifes & Florals" at the NMAL. I was particularly excited about using the color Manganese Blue as the foundational layer (under-painting) for this one.
